This year, Boötes is taking inspiration from the Swiss nature, teaming up with Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) to invite young talents to grasp this golden opportunity to practice their passion at our arts and design focused programme and delve into a creative learning process with the emphasis on project-based collaboration.

Nestled in the mountains of Ftan, The Mountain Lab provides the perfect setting for an arts and design summer school. Diverse and immersive would be an understatement as there will never be a dull moment with adventures, enrichment courses, and exciting excursions in the great outdoors. Be sure to embark on this educational journey without missing out on the joys of summer!

Through the learning from working professionals, field trips, excursions, and visits to cultural places, students will explore 4 topics of their choosing- Product Design, Photography, Video Production, and Painting. We aim to push familiar perspective into a new light. Students are immersed in their chosen field of study through unique projects and ample guidance from the ZHdK faculty members.

To students, summertime should mean freedom and fun. We fully intend to infuse that into our programme, so be prepared to make new friends, experience new opportunities and enjoy an unforgettable summer on the beautiful mountainside!

Beyond the classroom and the athletic field, a multitude of exciting opportunities await our students. Weekend activities range from visiting Muzeum Susch to rock climbing, whitewater river rafting, enjoying free time on campus, amongst other options. The opportunities at The Mountain Lab are endless. Embracing one’s curiosity is the first step toward being successful in the community, so whether you are a beginner or an athlete, you are encouraged to utilise HIF’s state-of-the-art sports facilities and its nearby landscape.

The Mountain Lab is hosted in the campus of the long-established institution- Hochalpines Institut Ftan (HIF), celebrating their 225 years anniversary. Situated in the heart of Ftan, it is located in the Southeastern region of Switzerland, the Lower Engadine, bordering Austria and Italy. The region is also called the Valley of Light and is branded as an art village that provides the perfect immersive backdrop for you to embrace the nature, reconnect to your inner child, and rekindle the joy of learning. This charming village is 3 hours from Zurich airport and 2 hours away from Milan. The HIF campus stretches out to the mountainsides at 1,700 metres above sea level with a magnificent panorama view of the southern alpine peaks. Ftan shares close proximity to the Swiss National Park, which allows students with an adventurous spirit to become stewards of natural surrounding and resources, and aspires them to explore its wildlife, landscape of mountains, acres of forest, pastures, and rivers.
